»Brentwood Preparatory School has been rated as one of the country's highest achieving prep schools.

The school jumped another two places to 47th in The Sunday Times’ annual Parent Power guide – a list of the top 100 performing prep schools in the country.

This rise followed an eight-place leap last year.

The Parent Power results are based on performance in the Key Stage 2 SATs, Level 5, from 2009 to 2011.

English and maths

The school’s English and maths results have improved.

Pupils also take part in more than four hours of sport a week, two hours of music and all students take lessons in drama.

Year 6 pupils sat the national curriculum tests in May 2012. All pupils gained the government target of Level 4 in English and maths. This result exceeds the Performance Indicators in Primary Schools (Pips) predictions – with the average result a Level 5.

Overall, 10 of the school’s pupils attained Level 6 – which is outstanding.

Headteacher Jason Whiskerd said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I would like to congratulate all our pupils and staff on this wonderful success.

“Brentwood Preparatory School was ranked at 130th just five years ago and so much hard work has gone in to improving academic standards.

“I am delighted with this excellent result.”
