FORMER BMX World Champion Mike Mullen went back to school to inspire a group of Brentwood college students.
Mike spent a day with a group of girls from Years 9, 10 and 11 at Sawyers Hall College of Science and Technology as part of an initiative aimed at inspiring young people through sport.
As part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme, delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, Mike led a day of activities with the students including a discussion of stories and experiences in which he referred to his own journey through sport.
Mike is one of 24 athlete mentors who visit schools as part of the programme. This is his second year in the role.
Shane Jones, PE teacher at Sawyers Hall College of Science & Technology said: “It’s very exciting to have such an inspiring figure as Mike give up his time for us like this.”
The free online initiative, available from www.skysports.com/livingforsport is designed for young people aged 11 to 16 to encourage them to take on new sports to help motivate them to reach their potential.
It provides planning tools and sports kit to help teachers support young people – by improving their attainment, their health, their self-esteem, or by pushing them to reach their full potential.
