Three young maths geniuses have been ranked in the top seven per cent in the UK for a maths challenge.

The Year 5 and 6 pupils from James Oglethorpe Primary School entered the UK Junior Mathematical Challenge, which is aimed at pupils up to Year 8.

Nathan Bright, Jamie Squance and Aqeel Little achieved the top Gold Level.

Four other pupils from the school achieved a Bronze Level; they were Farah Hashem, Chloe Lamprell, Thomas Gibson and George Lebeau.

Four of these pupils went on to take part in the Havering Primary Schools Mathematics Challenge in Hall Mead School.

Nathan, Jamie, Thomas and Farah said they were over the moon to win by an impressive 13 points over their nearest rivals.

Cathy Rogers, chair of governors at the school, said: “These phenomenal results reflect the challenging curriculum and high standards that the school sets for its pupils. It is a testament to the hard work that both the pupils and staff have put into maths over recent years.”
