Parent organisers helped to raise more than 2,000 for a special needs school in Harold Hill.

The second annual Dycorts School fte to be organised by a group of mums was held last weekend.

Despite the rain forcing it inside the Settle Road building, the event still managed to raise the huge sum through a variety of fun-filled activities including face painting and raffles.

One of the organisers, Amanda Cranny, said: “It was a shame, it’s the second year we’ve done it and the second year it’s rained, we were going to have a brass band but the grass was too wet.

Prize

“But it still went really well despite the rain and we had a steady stream of people coming in and out all day.

“The kids really enjoyed it, especially the envelope game – which was a pound a time and everyone wins a different prize, they kept going back for more.”

Local branches of Tesco and Sainsbury’s supermarkets also donated goods to help raise money at the event.

As well as Amanda, the fete was organised by parents Tina Smith-Galer, Jolene Harrop, Barbara Sawyer and Marie Hollis.

Amanda added: “A few of us got together and thought it would be a good idea. It’s great to be able to give something back to the school.”
