Ernest Jones, The Liberty, was raided this morning (Monday October 12)

Ernest Jones in The Liberty Shopping centre was broken into this morning.

Police were called at about 2.30am to reports of a burglary at the Romford jewellery shop where a number of items were stolen.

The glass in a door to the shopping centre has been broken and a cordon in Western Road remains in place.

There have been no arrests at this stage.

Firefighters from Hornchurch and Romford also attended the scene at Western Road where a pile of wood had been set alight.

The fire, which melted the laminated glass on the doors of the shopping centre, was put out by 3am.

Enquiries continue.
