Not one but two trophies were collected on Thursday last week, by young rugby stars at a school tournament.

The Albany’s Year 8 team won all its games in the Havering rugby trophy tournament held at Emerson Park School, Wych Elm Road, Hornchurch.

Albany’s Year 9 were named as runners up.

Year 8 team captain, Logan Petrie said: “We won the tournament because we worked as a unit in every game.”

Coach, Richard Veares added: “I couldn’t be more proud of the lads and the effort they’ve put in throughout the season.

The Year 9 team won its first three games before narrowly losing to Hall Mead, the overall winners.

Captain, Ronnie Brooks said: “Despite only having 13 players the team played out of their skins to grasp second place.”

Assistant headteacher, Dave Malbon said players did themselves proud.

Leke Awomuti and Charlie Cole were praised for their skill and sportsmanship and Callum Swain for his defensive performance.
