Don’t mess with 13-year-old Daniel Towler – he’s just achieved a black belt in the Japanese martial art of jujutsu.
Daniel, who attends classes at the Campion School, Hornchurch, showed his skill during a demonstration from the Essex Martial Arts Academy at Monday’s Havering Show, which took place in Harrow Lodge Park.
“I do it for the experience – the focus, the confidence I get out of it, just the whole thing,” he said. “It’s fun.”
Albany School pupil Daniel says he will now devote his energy to learning taijutsu, and hopes one day to achieve an adult black belt in jujutsu – a rarity.
Instructor Jason Hindley explained: “It’s notoriously hard to get a black belt in our system because you have to be graded by the grand master, either by visiting Japan or when he comes here.”
