A damaged sewer pipe has created a four foot hole at the intersection between McIntosh and Hill Grove road.

Repair work on a damaged sewer pipe means the junction between McIntosh and Hill Grove road will be closed until Monday.

The pipe, 2.5m underground, has created a four-foot hole at the intersection.

Engineers will spend the weekend repairing the pipe and resurfacing the road.

A Thames Water spokeswoman said: “We’re sorry for the disruption our collapsed sewer and subsequent road damage has caused.

“Our engineers are working hard to make the essential repairs to our sewer pipe and get the road back to normal as soon as possible.”

Tracey Grove, who lives on Hill Grove road, said that the incident happened Wednesday morning:

“A police car felt a bump as it drove over and when they stopped there was a small hole and it has gradually got bigger during the day, probably about 4ft by 3ft.

“It’s quite deep and has been cordoned off with plastic barriers by the council.”
