The defeat brought an end to an encouraging run of form for Wayne Burnett’s team

Dagenham & Redbridge assistant manager Darren Currie wasn’t impressed with the performance of his side during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

Max Power was the difference for Micky Adams team, scoring the winner in the 75th minute to give the visitors a deserved three points.

It left the home supporters and staff downbeat about the display from the Victoria Road side.

Currie said: “I thought we were poor if I am brutally honest. It was a big game for both sides.

“You need to beat teams in and around you, but we haven’t done that. I don’t think looking back on the 90 minutes we deserved to beat them.

“I thought it was a flat game and I didn’t think Tranmere played great either, but it is certainly a missed opportunity.

“We haven’t really imposed ourselves on the game. They broke on us and the lad has hit a fantastic strike.”

Burnett’s side came into the match in good form having achieved two impressive two-goal victories against Carlisle United and Bury.

But they didn’t replicate the performances in those outings against Rovers.

Currie said it wasn’t to do with how they prepared the players, adding: “It is nothing we have told them to do any different so it is frustrating.

“We have looked a real goal threat in the last two games and then we didn’t move the ball with any urgency or make the pitch big when we had the ball against Tranmere.

“We really didn’t give their goalie too much to do so it is very frustrating.

“Since the last two victories we have come into the game positive and tried to keep everything the same as what we have been doing and what we have been asking of the boys, but just didn’t happen for us.”

Currie also revealed goalkeeper Mark Cousins wasn’t happy with his part in the Tranmere winner.

But he felt it was just an outstanding strike by the 21-year-old, who arguably deserved to score the decisive goal considering he was the standout performer.

“Mark is being critical of himself in the changing room,” admitted Currie.

“He doesn’t want to get beat by a goal like that, but it was a great strike.

“It has ended up winning the game for them so we are really disappointed with it.”
