A public meeting will be held to allow residents to air their opinions on proposals to redevelop an old hall and car park into apartment buildings.
Protesters attempted to stop the sale of Old Windmill Hall in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster last year by Havering Council, but were unsuccessful despite a petition garnering more than 1,000 signatures.
Now, representatives from contractors McCarthy and Stone have invited locals to comment on the redevelopment, which would see “later life” homes built.
Ahead of the meeting next week, a spokesman said: “We’ve spent time carefully researching the architecture and character of the local area, but we need to ensure what we build is what our customers, as well as the local community, would like to see in Upminster.
“We consider our proposed apartments will add a further dimension to the range of homes already available.
“The comments we receive [from the meeting] will help us tailor our proposals into something people will want to see, enjoy and call home.”
The meeting will take place on Wednesday at The New Windmill Hall, St Mary’s Lane, Upminster from 3.30-7pm.
