The 18-year-old, believed to be a student at Havering College of Further and Higher Education, was crossing Ardleigh Green Road, where the college is based, when he was run over.

Chris Smith, 40, of Ardleigh Green Road, Hornchurch, aided the teen by providing a blanket and his first aid kit, alongside someone with medical training who came out from the Ardleigh House Community Association, while they waited for an ambulance to arrive.

He said: “I was in shock but felt sadness as well as I had told people before that this was an accident black spot.

“It seems there is an accident at this point every three or four months and it is pure luck that somebody hasn’t been killed already. I think the boy was very lucky last night not to be killed.”

Police arrived at around 7.55pm and the teenager was taken to a the Royal London Hospital with head and shoulder injuries.

It is reported that although his injuries are serious, they are not life threatening and he is in a stable condition.
