A junior doctor who hopes to encourage teenagers into the medical profession is inviting schools to contact her to set up careers talks.

Dr Patrice Baptiste, 27, based at Western Road Medical Centre, Romford hopes to help state school students aim high, as she has found that only a small number go on to become doctors.

To achieve this, the doctor has created a course entitled “success in applying for medical school”, through her company Dream Smart Tutors.

She said: “Students think it’s beyond their reach but it can be done.”

In October, Dr Baptiste inspired pupils at a school in Clayhall, Redbridge.

“The students participated fully, were completely engaged,” she continued.

“They were all keen to learn and by the end of the day left understanding more about the training pathway of a doctor and what they need to do to successfully apply to medical school.”

Year 12 pupil Lorena said: “I’m now ready to start my journey in becoming a doctor.”

Dr Baptiste hopes to inspire pupils in Havering schools to explore careers in medicine.
