A police officer appeared in court over child rape charges on Wednesday.

Pc John Wigglesworth, 46, of The Ridgeway, Harold Wood, was arrested and charged on Tuesday with two counts of rape with a girl aged 13 to 15 and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.

He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and is due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, August 17.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2008 and 2010.

Metropolitan Police has confirmed that the officer has been suspended.
