Detectives investigating a shooting have taped off a Harold Hill road.
At 12.40am today police spotted a black Renault Clio driving at speed in Rainham Road, Rainham, and attempted to pull it over – but the driver didn’t stop.
After a chase officers found the car in Beam Avenue, Dagenham and arrested a man on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs. He is now in custody at an east London police station.
The car’s badly damaged bodywork had a gunshot mark. Police believe the shooting took place in Bridgwater Road and inquiries into what happened are ongoing.
The road is closed and officers are preventing anyone from accessing the taped off area at the back of Abercrombie House hostel.
