A community support officer has been left with a fractured skull after a police chase in Romford last night.
Police are now on the hunt for the attacker after he pushed the 42-year-old police community support officer (PCSO) to the ground in a pub car park before fleeing.
Two PCs and the PCSO had been pursuing a Vauxhall Astra in their unmarked police car after it overtook them at speed in Brentwood Road.
As the car went round the roundabout to come back on itself, the officers blocked the road in an attempt to stop it.
The Astra, containing a driver and one passenger, headed for The Oak pub car park and after being cornered by police the driver got out and pushed one officer before running off along the adjacent South Street, with the officers in pursuit.
The 28-year-old was stopped by a member of the public outside the Brickyard pub before officers arrested him on suspicion of assault on police and drink driving.
While this was taking place, the PCSO attempted to speak to the car’s passenger but was pushed to the floor, hitting his head off the ground.
