A neglected mini-golf course could be saved after a campaign for investment was launched by a councillor.

At the full council meeting at Havering Town Hall last week, Cllr Clarence Barrett, leader of the Residents’ Association, asked for investment in the Hall Lane golf course in Upminster, and assurance that the land will remain as green and open space.

Speaking to the Recorder after the meeting, he claimed the repsonse to his question was “vague and non-committal” and that he feared the site was being neglected for future disposal.

He added: “The course has been run down to such an extent that visitors are now few and far between, this may lead to the mini golf-course is no longer viable, and disposal for development becomes an option.

“As it stands, this is a tranquil piece of parkland that is closed to the public 90 per cent of the time. If it is not feasible as a mini-golf course then we should seek to put it to good community use, perhaps as a mini-nature reserve.”

There is a fair way to go in the campaign, but the councillor has launched a par-tition, which can be viewed and signed at gopetition.com/petitions/save-upminster-mini-golf-course.html.
