A 24-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after a fatal hit-and-run incident earlier this year.

Jamie Capon, of Tuck Road, Rainham, appeared in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today following the death of 58-year-old Derek Bernstein in Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch on July 23.

Capon was charged with dangerous driving, driving while uninsured and failing to stop after a road accident.

A 56-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both have been bailed to return to an east London police station on a date in late October pending further enquiries.
