“I thought this was going to be the end,” said the City trader who was shot by a balaclava-wearing hitman in Shenfield Station car park.
Stockbroker Robin Clark, 44, is under armed guard whilst being treated for a serious leg injury.
He was shot once in the leg as he got out of his friend’s car at about 5.45am on January 24.
Speaking to national newspapers from his bed in Basildon Hospital, he said:
“They came straight at me but no words were said. There was no: ‘Have that’, nothing at all.
“The moment I was shot, if you can imagine something superhuman punching you in the leg, so much so it went through the skin, that’s what it felt like.
“I put my hand over the wound and felt a reasonable amount of blood came out.
“I said a quick prayer because I thought this was going to be the end.
“I thought I was going to bleed to death before any help would come.”
Mr Clark admitted he was in debt but said he had not borrowed money from loan sharks and rules money or relationships as the motive.
British Transport Police (BTP) spoke to Mr Clark on Tuesday.
Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson said: “I can confirm we have now interviewed the victim at some length. This has provided us with a number of investigative leads. He currently remains in hospital.
“We will be carrying out another return visit to the railway station one week after the attack during which we will be distributing information to commuters in an attempt to identify anyone who might be able to assist the enquiry.”
