I don’t want your cash, says Romford woman who was failed by doctor at Modern Medical Centre, Rush Green Road
A Romford woman is refusing hundreds of pounds in compensation from a GP surgery because she doesn’t feel “justice” has been done.
The Modern Medical Centre in Rush Green Road was ordered to pay Johannah Madigan �500 by the Health Service Ombudsman.
The watchdog found that the centre’s treatment of Miss Madigan, of West Road, amounted to service failure.
Miss Madigan said: “I couldn’t accept the cheque because money was never the issue.”
She claimed: “I just want justice for what they’ve done to me and there’s no remorse there whatsoever.”
Miss Madigan complained about her treatment at the centre after she joined in 2008.
She relies on repeat prescriptions to control her asthma and osteoporosis but her new GP, Dr Kukathasan, would not re-prescribe the medication.

Despite repeated requests, Miss Madigan ran out of medicine and her condition got worse.
She said: “My breathing was so bad I had to go to A&E at Queen’s Hospital twice and I had pains everywhere.”
She alleged: “It was obvious I was ill but the surgery still didn’t give me anything.”
After months of failed complaints and a meeting in February 2009, Miss Madigan said the dispute had taken over her life.
She said: “My brother died on February 8 and I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t even cry at the funeral.
“All I could think about was the meeting and Dr Kukathasan.”
After attempting legal action through solicitors, Miss Madigan took her complaint to the Ombudsman.
The report said: “Dr Kukathasan’s actions fell so far below the applicable standard as to amount to service failure [which] led to an injustice to Miss Madigan in that she was caused significant and persistent distress and anxiety.”
The case was resolved in November last year with the order for compensation and a written apology from Dr Kukathasan.
But Miss Madigan felt he “wasn’t genuinely sorry”.
She is looking into other forms of legal action.
The Modern Medical Centre did not wish to comment.
