Bookworms have taken on over 1,000 books in the last few months as part of a new reading scheme at their school.

Year 7 pupils from the Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College, Hornchurch, have been participating in the accelerated reading project.

Once they have finished a title they take a quiz online and accumulate points.

The winners were Farzana Begum and Joshua Moonie, who read 27 and 20 books respectively during the September to February period. Rebecca McNamara took away the most points with 143 and Alexander Gray scored the next highest with 133.

Finley Gore, 12, who also took part, said: “I have always enjoyed reading, but read even more now because of the scheme.”
