James Farina, of West Malling Way, will spend half that time in prison and the rest on licence.

The 39-year-old was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, October 26.

Prosecutor, Patricia May, told the court police officers attended his address on April 14 this year, and seized a Nokia mobile and laptop on which they found extreme pornographic images of people having sex and oral sex with animals.

On March 9, an undercover police officer began a conversation in an online chat room with Farina under the username James39Filthyuk.

“[Farina] sent the police officer a picture of a male, naked from the waist down straddling a coffee table,” said Ms May.

“The chat included nauseating comments about sexual acts he wanted to do with her daughter.”

Ms May explained that Farina used explicit language and that the police officer, pretending to be a mother, had told Farina that her daughter was just 12 yearsnold.

Farina was convicted of similar sexual offences in 2010 for which he was made subject to a sexual prevention order.

This prohibited him from using a Tor browser which does not have the capacity to retain history, however after an analyst conducted a forensic examination of Farina’s computer, they discovered that he had been using a Tor browser for a certain period of time.

The discovery showed a number of images depicting women having sexual intercourse with dogs and skype conversations between Farina and a 15-year-old known as Balabum.

Farina exchanged sexual pictures with Balabum and Ms May told the court how after he received a picture of the teenager, Farina commented, “wow, you have the body of a 14-year-old”.

He arranged to meet with her at Romford Station but did not follow through with the encounter.

A psychiatric report of Farina determined that he has secondary paedophilia, because it is something that he developed later in his adulthood.

Defence lawyer Sunil Mehta told the court the report suggested Farina’s paedophilia has certain triggers including isolation and low mood, coupled with the effects of using cannabis.

Mr Mehta said: “Mr Farina takes these conversations to a point of contact but doesn’t carry out the arrangements.

“In custody he has had some low mood and suicidal thoughts. He has been given some antidepressants.

“[The doctor who wrote the report] described Farina as having an addiction, and that his activity is more dependent on other external factors such as adult relationships.”

Farina pleaded guilty on August 28 to causing a child under the age of 13 to look at an indecent image, engaging in sexual communication with a child, attempting to arrange a sexual activity with an 11-year-old, making indecent photographs of a child, and attempting to arrange a sexual activity with a 15-year-old. He also admitted possessing 315 extreme pornographic images which portrayed in an explicit and realistic way a person performing acts of intercourse with live animals.

Judge Carolyn English told Farina: “The task of both parents and the authorities to successfully protect the most vulnerable in society has become an even more difficult and thankless process.

“Those who seek to exploit do so not out in the open, but they hide in the twilight behind closed doors, reaching out from afar. There is quite literally a constant war being fought in a bid to police and bring such activities to a halt.

“These offences are made worse by the fact that this is not the first time you have been given a community order. The current offences include a breach of that order.

“This was a case of you, in full awareness of what you were doing, deliberately taking steps to thwart the protective measure that was currently in place.”
