Callous theives sprayed a man with a noxious substance during a Hornchurch robbery before striking a second victim in their getaway car as they fled the scene.

Officers and firefighters were called to reports of a robbery in Claremont Road at 5.45pm today, August 13.

There they found a man who had been sprayed with a noxious substance.

The man, aged in his early 20s, has been taken by the London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

A second victim was struck by the car as the suspects fled.

A Police spokesman said: “There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”

Around 12 firefighters were called to the scene, with two fire engines from Dagenham fire station attending and one from Ilford fire station.
