Havering and its surrounding areas are among the country’s hotspots for the number of home repossessions, new figures show.

A total of 870 more repossession orders were issued at what are now the two parts of Romford County Court over the past two years.

The number rose by 61 per cent at Romford County Court, in Main Road, from 775 to 1,250, making the court number 11 in a league table for England and Wales. There was a rise of 48 per cent at Ilford County Court, from 810 to 1,205, making that courthouse number 16 in the table, statistics compiled by the AA home response team show.

The two courts merged this year to become Romford County Court, hearing cases from both boroughs.

Tom Stringer, of AA home emergency response, said: “Some parts of the country have seen a significant increase in cases where people have had to resort to the courts to evict people from their property.”
