Mr Svolkinas, 34, was abducted from near his home in Dorking Rise, Harold Hill, in December 2012 and found by a dog walker drowned in nearby Carter’s Brook three days later.

Andrej Malinovskij, 43, of Pheasant Close, Royal Victoria Dock, killed Mr Svolkinas over an unpaid debt of £1,360, the jury at Wood Green Crown Court found today.

Mr Svolkinas, known as Elvis to his friends, was reported missing on December 13 by his concerned girlfriend.

Investigating officer Det Ch Insp Chris Jones, of the homicide and major crime command, said: “This was clearly a premeditated and well-planned attack on a man Malinovskij felt aggrieved by.

“He spent some time studying the victim’s day-to-day movements before carefully choosing his moment to snatch him off the street, bundle him into a car and brutally attack him.

“He then callously dumped his body in a remote stream where he left him to die.

“The attack may have been well-planned but Malinovskij failed to realise his vehicle had been repeatedly caught on CCTV and it was this that ultimately led to his capture and conviction today.”

Mr Svolkinas was heavily in debt when he died and owed several people money.

Malinovskij was suing Evaldas and received his money through the court system days after he murdered him.

A post-mortem showed that Evaldas’s skull was fractured after he was hit in the back of the head eight times with a heavy, blunt object. His cause of death was given as drowning.

The day before Malinovskij bludgeoned Evaldas to death, he booked one-way tickets for his family to travel home to Lithuania.

They departed on December 17, taking the Renault Espace used in the abduction with him.

Malinovskij will be sentenced tomorrow.
