A man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a constable following a police chase in Romford.

Police are still hunting for a different male who fled from the same car and pushed a community support officer who is still hospitalised with a fractured skull.

Dean Faith Bill Lee, 28, of The Chase, in Dagenham, admitted the attack yesterday at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court.

Lee, who is believed to live at the caravan site, was landed with a £675 bill for the attack.

Two PCs and the PCSO were pursuing a Vauxhall Astra in their unmarked police car after it overtook them at speed on Brentwood Road.

The officers blocked the road in an attempt to stop the car after it went round a roundabout to come back on itself.

The Astra, being driven by Lee, sped off to The Oak pub car park and was cornered by police.

Lee got out of the car and pushed the officer over before running off along the adjacent South Street with officers in pursuit.

But he was stopped by a member of public outside the Brickyard pub and then arrested by officers.

While this was taking place, the 42-year-old police community support officer (PCSO) attempted to speak to the car’s passenger but was pushed to the floor, hitting his head on the ground.

He was taken to an east London hospital where he remains but it is not believed his condition is life threatening.

Supt Cheryl Burden said: “This serves to highlight the dangers that officers and PCSO’s face every time they put on the uniform.

“They put themselves in harm’s way in order to protect the communities we serve.

“He is in good spirits in hospital and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.”

Lee will pay a £400 fine, £150 in compensation, a £40 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid twenties, 5ft 7in tall, medium build, dark hair and stubble and was wearing a light blue polo shirt and beige shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call officers on 01708 779264 or 101 and ask for Havering CID.
