“Stuart Webb drove without due care and attention and will now pay the price for his decisions.
“This case must serve as a warning to all drivers to ensure that they drive below the speed limit and consider the hazards they may face on their journey.”
The victim’s wife, Gloria, issued a tribute at the time of his death.
She said: “Curtis was a great husband and a true family man. He loved all nieces and nephews and he spent lots of quality time with them. He will be greatly missed by us all, with family and friends left utterly shocked and devastated by this tragic incident.”
She added that he was a lover of music particularly soul, jazz and funk.
He had worked for the Ministry of Defence for nearly 10 years, travelling around the world, including to Cyprus and Germany.
Webb has been bailed until May 27 when he will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court.
