Charges of conspiracy to rob a post office and possession of three prohibited weapons will see a Brentwood man appear before magistrates today, police have said.
In a statement, the Met Police said Patrick Claydon, 48, is charged with conspiring to rob the Belfairs Post Office in North Leigh-on-Sea between April 29 and November 14.
He is also charged with having a firearm – a pump action smooth bore shotgun – with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possession of three prohibited weapons: the shotgun, a stun gun and a double-barrelled 12-bore shotgun. All the firearms offences are alleged to have taken place on Wednesday.
Clayton, along with Tommy Aitken, 37, of no fixed address, and Sandra Clarke, 44, of Leigh-on-Sea, are due to appear before Thames Magistrates’ Court today.
Their arrests followed a joint operation between the Met’s flying squad and Essex Police.
