A 20-year-old man from Ingatestone has admitted causing GBH in connection with a road collision which caused a talented cyclist to suffer life-changing injuries in February 2010.
Ben Lowe, of Stock Lane pleaded guilty to charges of GBH, dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and using a vehicle without insurance at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday last week (May 17).
The charges were in connection with a collision between a transit van and a pedal cyclist which happened in Station Lane, Ingatestone, on February 28 of last year.
Andy Horner, 35, who had been living in Brentwood and working as a bus driver, suffered serious injuries in the incident. The amateur sportsman had competed for some of the country’s best cycling clubs.
Lowe has been remanded in custody awaiting sentence later this month.
A 17-year-old girl from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey was acquitted of charges of GBH and aggravated vehicle taking following the three day trial.
