A police dog was attacked during an investigation in Collier Row in the early hours of Tuesday.
Officers were investigating premises in Berkley Avenue, after a call that strange noises could be heard at 12.15am.
The police dog was then attacked by a pit bull, which clamped itself to its neck.
Insp Jane Robson, said: “This had the potential to have been a serious incident but fortunately the police dog handler and his colleague was able to pull the two dogs apart quickly ensuring the police dog was uninjured.
“The other dog involved in this incident will be assessed by a member of the Metropolitan Police Service Status Dog Team to establish whether any offences have been committed.”
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of owning a dog subject to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. He remained in custody when the Recorder went to press.
