A driver who had two gunshot victims in his car flagged down passing police for help.
At about 4.20pm on Monday, officers travelling down Noak Hill Road in Noak Hill, near Bedfords Park, were stopped by a motorist and asked to help a man and woman who had been shot and were in his vehicle.
The pair were taken to hospital for treatment before being transferred to a different east London hospital where they remain in a serious condition. Their injuries are not said to be life threatening.
Officers from Trident Gang Crime Command investigate.
No arrests have been made, inquiries continue.
