A prison officer from Romford is in critical condition after being attacked outside Blackfriars Court.

Grandmother Lorraine Barwell, 54, was kicked and stamped on as she escorted prisoners to a jail van on Monday.

Her family have reportedly told doctors to turn off her life support.

Humphrey Burke has been charged with GBH and appeared in custody at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Kevin Hagan, Serco contract director, said: “Our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.”
