Residents first in line for homes in Harold Hill redevelopment

Residents will be given top priority over brand new council properties after a lettings policy was pushed through last month.

More than 270 new homes are due to be built by the council on the Briar Road and Hilldene estates in Harold Hill, and current residents in the area will be first in line to move in.

Work started on the estates last year, with Briar Road expected to have 102 new homes, more parking spaces and improved street lighting when complete,

The Hilldene estate is expected to hold 172 new properties, a state of the art library and an improved Hilldene Shopping Centre too.

Havering Council’s lead member for housing Cllr Damian White said: “I’m really pleased that the local lettings policy has now become official. It’s crucial that Harold Hill residents benefit first from the improvements the Council is making throughout the area.”

The new policy came in after Havering Council wanted to ensure that residents in Harold Hill would benefit from the regeneration initiative.

Cllr White added: “[I] would urge all those interested to take advantage of their ability to get top priority when it comes to bidding for a new family home.”

The new properties are expected to be ready in spring next year.
