Police gave residents burglary prevention advice outside Elm Park tube station last week.

The safer neighbourhood team and community safety officer for Havering Council, David Garment, gave advice on how to prevent a burglary from happening in people’s homes.

They suggested using timer switches if they would be out when it is dark to light up their properties and gave advice to members of the Asian community on how to protect and secure any gold they may have.

They also handed out timer switches, property marking kits, purse chains and information on how to prevent properties from being burgled.

Police said burglary patrols have been increased in the area and will include night shifts towards the end of the month.

PCSO Sammy Lee said: “This event was a perfect opportunity to remind our residents now the nights are drawing in to keep their properties lit up in hours of darkness

“The event was a great success and residents told the team that it was reassuring to see police providing the community with such valuable advice.

“It was also an opportunity to let the residents know what the team have been doing to combat burglaries in the Elm Park area.”
