Havering firefighters were among 30 who battled a blaze in Dagenham over night.

A man was taken to hospital with burns after the fire in Sterry Gardens which severely damaged the home.

Crews were called to the property at around 3.15am today (Wednesday) and spent almost three hours bringing the fire under control.

The man was taken by ambulance to Queen’s Hospital, Romford, suffering from four per cent burns. Another two people, including an elderly woman, were checked by paramedics at the scene but not treated.

Emergency services have been unable to get inside the property because it is unstable, the London Fire Brigade said.

Surrounding properties were evacuated as a precaution. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
