Councillors will tonight decide whether to approve planning permission for a “gypsy and traveller caravan site” on the Green Belt in Romford.
Occupants have lived on the land on the corner of Straight Road and Lower Bedfords Road, known as Vinegar Hill, for 10 years without formal planning permission, after a temporary right to remain expired in 2004.
In a report published ahead of Thursday evening’s meeting of Havering’s Regulatory Services Committee, council officers recommended granting the application “in recognition of the unmet need for gypsy and traveller sites” in the borough.
The application for five pitches for gypsy and traveller accommodation was made by Mr Myles O’Connor and approval would see him and others permitted to remain on the site for another three years.
