The cost of school meals in the borough has been frozen to £2 a day until 2016, following negotiations between the Redbridge Council and ISS Facility Services Education.

Both parties have been working closely together to ensure that pupils can continue to enjoy fresh and healthy meals at school for an affordable price.

Fifty-two schools in Redbridge have been awarded the Soil Association’s Silver Food for Life Catering Mark for 2013/14.

The mark means that the food served is sustainably sourced and of a high quality.

Cllr, Alan Weinberg, cabinet Member for children’s services, said: “Keeping the price low, and guaranteeing it until 2016 not only shows we understand the financial strains our residents face in these times of austerity, it also means that for a tenner a week parents know their kids are getting a freshly cooked, healthy, balanced meal.”
