A woman is cycling 60 miles to Brighton from London in aid of her stepdaughter who suffers from a rare genetic cancer.
Michelle Fitzgibbons, 39, of Collier Row, and her partner, Justin, are taking on the challenge to raise money for research into Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) which causes sufferers to battle a series of tumours throughout their lives.
Her stepdaughter, Chloe, 19, was diagnosed at the age of nine and has had a series of operations on her brain, spine and eye.
“Unfortunately she lost one of her eyes at 12,” said Michelle. “She had a spinal tumour removed a month ago and has a damaged nerve in her arm, but the outcome could have been paralysis so hopefully some feeling may return soon. She also has two more tumours on her brain which will have to be removed later this year.”
Michelle and hopes to raise £200 through her fundraising page bike4cancer.org/michelle-justin-l2b-2015
