Pre-season friendly: Dagenham & Redbridge 3 Colchester United 4

Daggers put in a solid performance despite going down at home to Colchester United.

Macauley Bonne gave the League One side the lead, but goals from Ashley Hemmings, Abu Ogogo and the influential Ashley Chambers put the hosts in command.

Dominic Vose pulled one back for the U’s, before Daggers made a number of changes, and that worked in favour of the visitors as Vose netted a second and Jabo Ibehre scored what proved to be the winner.

Trialists Ashley Hemmings, George Porter and former York and Notts County midfielder Andre Boucaud all started for the Daggers.

It wasn’t the brightest of beginnings from the hosts though as former Colchester keeper Mark Cousins denied Macauley Bonne and Dominic Vose in a matter of minutes.

And the League One visitors went in front when Daggers didn’t clear their lines from a corner and Bonne was there to slot home.

Daggers were much improved after that though and Brian Saah was denied by former Daggers number one Chris Lewington following Hemmings’ corner.

But from another corner in the Daggers found the equaliser on the quarter of an hour mark when Ogogo headed home Chambers’ inswinging delivery.

Wayne Burnett’s side continued on the front foot and another good ball into the box almost resulted in the hosts second as Connors’ centre found Hemmings but he headed over the bar.

Connors continued to cause havoc when overlapping down the left and another teasing delivery just evaded Chambers in the box.

And just before the half was out the Daggers moved in front when a fine run and cross from the busy Chambers was headed home by Hemmings.

After the break, Burnett’s side continued to link-up well and a raking cross field ball found Porter.

He dinked it through for Howell who in turned played it back for impressive Chambers, however, he shot just wide.

Chambers was on the scoresheet minutes later though when he tried his luck from 25 yards and fired superbly past Lewington, only for Vose to open his account with a fine free-kick past Cousins.

The regular flurry of substitutions followed and in the space of three minutes Colchester went from being 3-2 behind to 4-3 up.

Firstly, Dominic Vose lobbed sub goalkeeper Liam O’Brien from all of 35 yards, before Jabo Ibehre tapped in at the back post.
