“The group started in May 1994 with the intention of supporting people with diabetes and their families, friends and carers.
“We meet every three months and have guest speakers talking about the care of diabetes and the hopes of improving the condition in the future.
“Our support is given to children and adults who are suffering from Type One and Type Two diabetes.
“We are committed to raising funds for our parent body Diabetes UK and have also bought various pieces of equipment for Queen’s Hospital’s children’s care team in Romford.
“We have also funded various families and children to go on breaks where they can learn more about taking control of the condition.
“The younger children have access to a creche and we also have a free literature library and lending library.
“We raise our funds by holding various events. These include race nights, quiz nights, discos and sponsored events.
“We have taken part in three Romford carnivals, winning first prize each time, which was a good boost for our group’s children.
“We also attend the Harold Hill Festival each year and any other carnivals, festivals and events that will attract the public.”
