Residents aged 30 and under spoke about what it is like to live in today’s society.

It was part of the first meeting of the Havering Young Residents, which took place recently at Hornchurch Library in North Street.

The group was started by Alex Donald, who set up a blog last year to get young people in Havering interested in politics.

He said: “It was a really positive and vibrant discussion which completely smashes the myth that young people are apathetic about politics.

“Everyone who attended got involved in the discussion, and there were some really passionate views, including many disagreements.”

Cllr Gillian Ford (RA, Cranham) shadow cabinet member for young people, who also attended the metting said: “It is good to see and hear young people taking an interest in what is happening around them, why problems arise and possible solutions.

“Credit to Alex for trying to engage with young people as we need to ensure our borough supports young people in reaching their full potential, in a safe and welcoming environment”.
