Archant

A beloved children’s author was amazed when he visited a school, only to see everyone dressed up as one of his characters.

Squirrels Heath Infant School, Salisbury Road, Gidea Park, was delighted to welcome author Nick Butterworth for the day where he met hundreds of children, parents and teachers greeting him as the lovable Percy the Park Keeper and Jasper the cat.

Nick said: “It was actually overwhelming. The fact they had put in so much effort to create costumes based on my illustrations, was wonderful.

Of course, there were a few interlopers – Superman joined the party as well as Queen Ella from Frozen and Judith Kerr’s Mog! All were welcome.

“For authors, there is nothing as refreshing as meeting the very people their books are for.”
