The chair of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust has resigned.

Sir Peter Dixon left the trust which runs Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes.

Dr Maureen Dalziel has been appointed the new chair as of last Monday.

Sir Peter resigned in the same week that the Recorder revealed that an “improvement director” was appointed to oversee the trust’s progress through special measures.

The trust was put into special measures in December after a damming report by the Care Quality Commission about unsafe A&Es, understaffing, long waiting times and poor planning.

Steve Russell was appointed by the NHS Trust Development Authority to oversee the process.
