RECORD numbers attended an annual celebration of dancing, food and arts to promote culture in the community.

The fifth Community Cultural Celebration drew its biggest ever crowd this year, on Saturday October 23.

More than 600 people attended the event at the Queen’s Theatre, in Hornchurch, where a range of cultures were brought together to promote diversity.

Performances included Chinese acrobats, Polish and Irish dancing, Cuban music and Motown and gospel singers.

There was also a variety of cultural themed stalls with arts and crafts for sale.

Guests got the chance to taste various cuisines from around the world with food from Caribbean, Chinese, Asian, English and Italian cultures on the menu.

The Mayor of Havering, Councillor Pam Light, who officially opened the event, said: “This event has gone from strength to strength each year and is a great way to bring together people of all cultures and backgrounds.

“We have a vast range of cultures in Havering and are lucky to live in harmony. The cultural event allows us to learn from each other, while also sharing our own diverse traditions.”

The event was organised by the Havering BME (Black Minority Ethnic) Forum, in partnership with Havering Council and the Metropolitan Police.
