A dedicated care home worker who goes ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ is celebrating after picking up a top award.

Colin Burton, who works as the catering manager at Ladyville Lodge Care Centre in Fenn Lane, Upminster was presented with a special rock award recently.

Colin said: “I do what I do because I want to do it, but at the same time it is nice to be recognised.”

The 52-year-old father of seven, was given the award by the care home manager Ola Awoyemi and was presented with a special letter of thanks from the Chief Executive of Four Seasons Health Care, who run the home.

The residents and their families decided to nominate Colin for the award as a way of repaying him for all his hard work.

He said: “I treat all of the residents in the way that I would treat my mum, I would never go home until I know that they are happy.”

He added: “It means a lot to be appreciated by people outside of the home.”

Colin started working as catering manager at the home eight years ago.

Four years ago, he was given the position of champion for dignity and care within the home.

He said: “I make sure that the residents look presentable and they have a good dining experience.

“For many of them, this is their last home, so I want to make it a good experience.”
