Calling all Kate Moss or David Gandy wannabes! Take part in this summer’s ‘Get into Fashion’ model comp

Think you have what it takes to be the new Kate Moss or David Gandy? Then strut along to the Mercury Mall from next weekend for the start of this summer’s exciting “Get into Fashion” model search.
Now in its seventh year, Havering’s hottest competition, in association with the Recorder, is for those with a penchant for fashion and desire to model some of the best new looks around.
You can enter at of three scouting days The Mall on Saturdays August 24 and 31, or September 7, from 11am to 4pm.
The free competition is organised in conjunction with Truly Scrumptious Child Model Agency and Len Dance photography.
“This is a great opportunity for all local lads and lasses who think they might have what it takes but don’t know how to go about starting a career in modelling,” said Spencer Hawkin, deputy centre manger. “It is a fun and easy step to getting your name in print and their face in the press if nothing else!”
The finalists will get choreography lessons, take part in catwalk shows, and enjoy a professional photoshoot.
“Get noticed. Don’t wait to be discovered”, said Sharon Obee, of Truly Scrumptious Child Model Agency. “Don’t put it off. Even if you haven’t been successful in the past, the industry and its requirements are constantly changing and the demand for a certain look varies from season to season.”
The categories are: four to six; seven to 10; 11 to 15; 16 to 29; 30 years and over; and plus sizes.
Pictures of all those scouted will be printed in a special Recorder feature. Readers can then vote for their favourites.
The most popular and promising will be invited to a casting session. There, male and female finalists across all the categories will be chosen and take part in two days of fashion shows.
For the 4 to 15 age categories, one boy or girl will be awarded a year’s placement by Truly Scrumptious Model Agency. All winners will receive a share of £700 to spend at The Mall. Len Dance photography will award each winner a photography package worth £800.
