Quick-thinking bystanders gave a man CPR after he collapsed outside a Hornchurch school.
The 67-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest outside Ardleigh Green Junior School, on Helen Road, at about 8.45am last Thursday (October 25).
Two people, including the school’s headmaster, gave emergency chest compressions until two ambulance crews and a paramedic in a car arrived.
A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: “Extensive efforts were made to resuscitate the patient, on the scene and on the way to Queen’s Hospital, where he was taken as a priority.”
Becontree ambulance station paramedic Danny Field, who was on the scene, said: “When we arrived we found two bystanders giving good-quality chest compressions to the patient.
“Calling 999 for an ambulance and starting chest compressions straight away when someone collapses and stops breathing gives them the best chance of survival.”
No update on the man’s condition was available as the Recorder went to press.
