Essex County Council is advising residents to travel carefully and be prepared for icy conditions, with more snow forecast to fall tomorrow (Friday) and over the weekend.

The Essex Highways fleet of 60 winter gritting lorries will be treating roads across the county overnight and over the weekend as required.

Gritting vehicles have been treating Essex’s main road network day and night throughout this week, and staff will be on call 24-hours-a-day.

You can keep updated with where is being gritted online with a tracking system at www.essex.gov.uk/highways and by following @Essex_Travel on Twitter.

County Cllr Derrick Louis, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: “With more snow forecast, I advise residents to travel with extreme caution at this time, allowing extra time for their journeys and checking the latest weather and traffic updates before they travel.

“Our gritters have been doing a great job over the past few days, making sure our main road network is kept moving. We are constantly monitoring weather forecasts, and decisions on further gritting runs will be taken as required.”
