A two-year-old child who went missing from a library was found safe thanks to the efforts of staff, customers and the police.

The incident happened at Central Library, St Edwards Way, Romford, on Monday, August 21.

The toddler was said to have run out of the library, through the subway and into Laurie Walk.

On Facebook, a post on Havering Libraries page said: “The police were called immediately and both staff and customers searched for the child.

“Thank you to all. Fortunately he was found safe and well by the police.

“The whole incident was over in about 15 to 20 minutes. It seemed longer to us and I’m sure it seemed like a lifetime to [his] mum.”

A spokesman for Havering Council added: “Thanks to the swift action of Library staff, police located the boy approximately 15 minutes later in Laurie Walk at the nearby Liberty Shopping Centre.”
