A charity volunteer with epilepsy has been recognised for the support he has continuously provided for others with the condition.

Ian Granville, from Bow, set up national charity Epilepsy Action’s first support group, called ‘Romford rendezvous’, in 2010 and has inspired other volunteers to launch their own groups across east London.

Ian also works voluntarily at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital’s epilepsy clinic where he promotes the charity’s support services.

Upon receiving his award at a ceremony in Leeds last week Ian said he was ‘touched’ by the recognition.

“I am excited and touched to receive this award,” said Ian. “I’m inspired to help other people with epilepsy and make them feel less isolated.

“Having people to talk to and understand what you’re going through can be a huge support.”

Epilepsy Action’s chief executive, Philip Green, said: “We’re delighted to acknowledge Ian’s wonderful work at this year’s Epilepsy Action Volunteer Awards. This award is a fitting and deserved tribute to his energy and commitment.”
