Romford manager Paul Martin cannot work out why his side continues to have inconsistency.

Whether it’s pre-season or the regular Ryman One North campaign, Romford boss Paul Martin cannot fathom out his side’s inability to succeed against the lower league sides.

Having seen his side pick up a 1-1 draw against Ryman Premier side Met Police on Saturday, Martin was a pleased man, but on Tuesday night he saw Boro lose out 4-2 to Essex Senior League outfit Barking.

“We tried to balance pre-season out with teams who would be similar to the top and bottom of this league,” said Martin.

“We produced a good performance against Met Police, but with only a few changes we conceded four at Barking.

“That’s nothing against Barking, but we shouldn’t be doing that. Five trialists came on in the last half hour and we scored two. There is competition and I am not scared to put these trialists in. If they deserve to start they will.”

On Saturday, Met Police took the lead when Stafforde Palmer tapped home from Jay Lovett’s cross.

But Boro drew level 11 minutes later when Hussein Isa’s ball into the box was bundled in by James Ishmail.

Boro were 3-0 down at Barking on Tuesday night after goals from Ben Turner, Chas Liddiard and Nicky Driver.

Alfie Hinton pulled one back after 71 minutes, though Liddiard restored the three-goal cushion.

Late on Dave Chambers drove in a second for Romford, but it was too late to mount a comeback. After last night’s (Thursday) game against Blue Square South side Billericay Town, Boro travel to Ryman Premier outfit Canvey Island on Tuesday night.
